Iceland population hoovers around 320,000 while annual tourist visits pushes 800,000. This means travel and transportation within the city is phenomenally simplified. The bus terminal at KEF has convenient bus ticket kiosks and Flybus (a.k.a. Reykjavik Excursions ((same company))) leave for the city center a few times an hour. The bus terminal in the city center is within walking distance of most hotels--and door-to-door shuttle service is available for an extra 500ISK (1900 ISK vs. 2400 ISK). Designed by Jon Gunnar Arnason. Travel photography notes: If you can only bring two lens, a wide angle and a telephoto are a must. All pictures in post taken with my kit lens (Canon 18-55mm) on my Canon T3i. October 2013. Handheld, stitched together in Photoshop. Had about 40% overlap on each picture (nine total) to compose the image. Gros Piton is seen behind the foliage in the left-center area of the frame, and Soufriere Bay is camera right. Petit's summit is maybe 30 meters in circumference, with dense pockets of bushes and brambles and rocks and abso-frickin'-lutely stunning 360-degree views on St. Lucia. </image:caption></image:image><lastmod>2014-01-14T19:52:36+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://onelensinchina.com/2014/01/05/onelens-is-now-a-registered-domain/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/onelensregistered.jpg</image:loc><image:title>OneLens Is A Registered Domain</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2014-01-05T17:49:03+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://onelensinchina.com/2013/12/26/onelens-best-photography-of-2013/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_4447.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Unionville, CT</image:title><image:caption>Unionville, CT February 2013</image:caption></image:image><lastmod>2013-12-27T16:21:16+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://onelensinchina.com/2013/09/18/framed-san-francisco-ca/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/img_2631_2.jpg</image:loc><image:title>IMG_2631_2</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/img_2646_2.jpg</image:loc><image:title>IMG_2646_2</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/img_2651_2.jpg</image:loc><image:title>IMG_2651_2</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/img_2662_2.jpg</image:loc><image:title>IMG_2662_2</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/img_2748_2-2.jpg</image:loc><image:title>IMG_2748_2 2</image:title></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/img_2665.jpg</image:loc><image:title>At Washington and Davis</image:title><image:caption>Intersection of Washington St and Davis in San Francisco, CA. Included transportation to and from La Haut resort. La Haut offered to organize for me, but for $170--so I went straight to Demascus and organized on my own. Tipped an extra $30 at the end, since it was so frickin' spectacularly awesome--seemed fitting for someone that worked so hard. Most times Demascus said he does the hike at $70 per person, with a minimum of two people. First lookout point about an hour into the hike. Guides are available at the base of GROS PITON (taller but easier (again, a term used loosely) of the two Pitons) and are employed by the government. Guides are NOT available at the base of Petit Piton, since there is no real, marked start of the trail. Most hotels can arrange for a guided hike of Petit. I HIGHLY recommend going with someone who has experience on the trail (Demascus has taken courses in first aid, nature survival, etc) and knows the terrain extremely well. You MUST be in excellent physical condition to hike Petit. IT IS HARD. Ha to quote (On my hike up GROS):
Demascus: If you can keep up with me on this hike, mayyyybe we can do Petit. Maybe.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_3226_2.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Demascus</image:title><image:caption>About a two hour trek to the top. STRAIGHT UP (ha, have I mentioned that.) We began around 9am--much later=much hotter. Spent about an hour at the top (maybe about 20 meters in circumference). Rocky and full of foliage with a couple clearings. Guess the daring Demascus has camped overnight a couple times (i.e. slept on the ground). While the stars and sky would be breathtaking, sleepwalking and rolling down the cliff of a mountain would be less appealing.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_3243.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Looking Toward Gros Piton</image:title><image:caption>My mantra during the climb: Solo travel means I'm adventurous, not an idiot.
Reality: Hmmm, I'm using ropes tied to tree roots to climb STRAIGHT UP a 12 foot rock ledge. Wouldn't this just suck in the rain. p.s. don't look down, there is nothing behind you. </image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_3258.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Looking Toward Gros Piton</image:title><image:caption>From the summit. Fully sweated through about 15 minutes in. Carried up my Manfrotto, one-shouldered camera bag, thankfully with chest strap. Trust me you'll need all four limbs free to assist with the ROCK CLIMBING PARTS. In terms of gear, I hiked light (especially after the rain I encountered while hiking Gros Piton). Just the T3i body and Cannon kit lens. Topped it off with three bottles of water (all drank with no need to pee after 5 hours! Hooray extreme exertion!) and a couple cliff bar snacks. Sunscreen=necessary. Bug Spray (in October)=not so much.</image:caption></image:image><lastmod>2013-12-14T22:01:33+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://onelensinchina.com/2013/11/25/onelens-in-st-lucia-at-24fps-in-0138/</loc><lastmod>2013-11-25T05:47:26+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>monthly</changefreq></url><url><loc>https://onelensinchina.com/video/</loc><lastmod>2013-11-25T05:44:44+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>weekly</changefreq><priority>0.6</priority></url><url><loc>https://onelensinchina.com/about/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/img_3807.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Lincoln, NH</image:title><image:caption>Photo-Credit: Randall French</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/img_3861.jpg</image:loc><image:title>IMG_3861</image:title></image:image><lastmod>2014-03-28T14:58:20+00:00</lastmod><changefreq>weekly</changefreq><priority>0.6</priority></url><url><loc>https://onelensinchina.com/2013/11/10/onelens-at-anse-chastanet-and-mamin-st-lucia/</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/waterrocksps.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Rock Formation</image:title><image:caption>Geology buffs? As seen along the Exploration Trail. I was busy trying to auto-focus on some jumpers in the background when I realized these lil guys were propped up in their trademark one-legged stances about 10 meters away. Shutter speed was at 1/160-I don't recommend shooting much slower-as the caravan's have only a few spots along the 20 minute driving route where they are actually authorized to come to a complete halt-so often you'll be firing shots off while the vehicle is moving at a slow creep...just enough to motion blur the perfect shot (sad face--I ruined my crocodile pics this way)</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/img_2335.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Sleeping 18 Hours</image:title><image:caption>Lioness as seen on Animal Kingdom's Kilimanjaro's Safari (Disney's Fast Pass both available and recommended--grab a pass and then do the exploration trail while waiting for your cue time to arrive). Long the long lens its ability to grab such a shallow depth of field. Didn't adjust saturation in post (iphoto-though I'm seriously considering a switch to Lightroom) so this is a fairly accurate picture of the richness of color in the glass-how it blends and stretches in the extreme heat and then solidifies with the slow cooling process-about 24 hours</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/img_2158-2.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Not intentionally phallic :) </image:title><image:caption>Second of two paperweights. Friendly, engaged staff.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://onelensinchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/img_1827.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Shallow DOF at Cathedral Ledge</image:title><image:caption>Shot on my Canon T3i, 18-55mm kit lens.
